Education in Pandemic Era

Hello everyone.. I'm Qotuz.

Today, I want to share a story about learning experience in this pandemic era, especially in elementary schools.

To find out how the elementary school learning system is and its quality in this time.  I asked my neighbor who is still in 4th grade. I am very happy when he is willing to be questioned.

In the evening, he came to my house with some of his textbooks. To start the conversation, I asked him.  "Do you have difficulty while studying at home?"  He replied that he found it difficult when he did the math assignment his teacher gave him.

I also offered to help him, so he could understand the lesson. His job at that time was doing math on equivalent fractions and simplifying fractions.

When I had explained the equivalent fractions, he understood and started doing his work. I was a bit surprised that he didn't know multiplication by heart. But I thought, maybe he still doesn't memorize it, but at least he can calculate it.

After doing the task, I then taught about the simplification of fractions where the basis in this material is about division. I teach that this simplification of fractions uses the division method to do it. Surprisingly, he replied that he had not been taught about division.

I was surprised to hear the reason. Then I asked, how was the learning system applied by the teacher during the 3rd grade? He replied that his teacher gave assignments via whatsapp but rarely.

I felt sorry for hearing that reason. After that, I taught him about division so he could do his homework. I tried my best so he could understand easily.

Multiplication and division are basic in mathematics. If you can't understand it, it will be difficult to work on the materials that will come later.

Thank's for read this,

Love you all.

  1. What you do is very cool and useful.
Indeed during this pandemic learning is less effective especially when there are still many who are confused about operating technology, so our concern for education around needs to be improved so that no generation is left behind.
